But Hadid, who is aggressively autonomous, produces work that exists in two zones:
a determined body of paintings and drawings, and the actual buildings themselves.
Here's one
of my secrets in trying to
determine how well a new car is built: I wash it.I stick my face up real close and see how well the
paint is put on, look at how the trim pieces go together and see how flush the
body panels fit.Ford has made a lot
of noise lately about how well the new Escort is built.
Through performance, collage -
paintings, video and sculpture she continues to think about the complicatedness
of being and how essentially one's physical
body plays such a huge role in
determining their experiences, their survival and ability to understand what that is.
This
body of work plays with the idea
of art as an ongoing conversation with posterity in which artifacts
of the past are
painted over, yet traces
of the original art remain — and using the cave - dweller as a metaphor for the fundamental human condition: forever shrouded in darkness and uncertainty, yet
determined to leave our own visions upon the walls
of the cave.
These stem from a diversity
of site - specific conditions, including, but not limited to: local vegetation; presence
of building structures and contributions made by such structures involving energy use, heating and air conditioning, etc; exposure to winds, the wind velocities
determined by climatic factors and also whether certain wind directions are more favored than others by terrain or the presence or absence thereof to
bodies of water; proximity to grass, asphalt, concrete or other material surfaces; the physical conditions
of the CRS itself which include: the exact location
of the temperature sensors within it, the degree
of unimpeded flow
of external air through the CRS, the character
of the
paint used; the exact height
of the instrument above the external surface (noting that when the ground is covered by 3 feet
of snow, the temperature instrument is about 60 % closer to, or less than 2 feet, above an excellent radiating surface, much closer than it would be under snow - free conditions).
