Although this looked cool, we wanted to try something a little different but still
keep dev costs down — it was the credit crunch after all!
One can only hope that they plan on pushing things even further next gen, especially
with dev costs set to rise.
EA was recently quoted as saying to keep up with the increase
in dev costs going into this coming gen, they could just add the cost to games, so now they expect the consumers to pay $ 69.99 for games, and then micro-transactions after that.
Could it be that they want to keep
lower DEV costs so that more developers and publishers could stay afloat while sony / microsoft just want the costs to go up for their own pockets?
I do nt recall any gamer saying they WANTED DLC, the problem was most devs just all decided to make DLC for their games since last gen because the claim is
game dev costs are much higher than previous gens.
The beginning of the next gen will probably have
reasonable dev costs, as publishers will cross develop on PS3 and PS4, simply uprezing, with Ubisoft saying:
Publisher thought to be unhappy with high
console dev costs as Metal Gear Solid V budget balloons past $ 80m
Krome CEO says the games press often overlooks the problematic rise
in dev costs, claims the industry is «struggling» as a whole
You're probably right about
the dev costs.
This increase in
dev costs is steering them in directions that don't necessarily jive with gamers, causing them to take less risks on new and potentially exciting IP's or game mechanics and sticking with tried and true properties that are more of a guarantee.
Conan Exiles, on the other hand, recouped
its dev costs in less than a week.
