Some within the fire sector will recall the
devastating effect of the fire in Our Lady of the Angels in Chicago on 1 December 1958 where 92 pupils and three nuns lost their lives when smoke, heat, fire, and toxic gases
cut off their normal means of escape from the
upper floors of the school building.
