Possible complications include
developing immune responses against the blood donor (alloimmunization), as well as adverse reactions such as transfusion related acute
lung injury (TRALI).
Using translational research methods, the DZL seeks to jointly
develop new approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of serious
lung diseases including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, diffuse parenchymal
lung disease (DPLD), endstage
lung disease,
lung cancer, pneumonia and acute
lung injury, and pulmonary hypertension.
