Deliberately awkward moments which are funny at first, are allowed to drag into eternity;
dialogue scenes run on; and it takes far too long to get to the punch - line.

The race sequences are well - staged and interesting, but a lot of the
dialogue scenes in between are forgettable, and the
running jokes don't really work.
Criterion, of course, provides the latter, which according to Wikipedia
runs 30 seconds longer and contains more blood in the elevator
scene, more pubic hair in the shower opening, and some racier
dialogue in a later doctor's office

running commentary by Marshall, who not only falls into the trap of simply describing either the action or

scene instead of imparting much background information and stories about the production (going unaddressed, disappointingly so, is the widely reported last - minute Heigl - for - Berry recast, with the latter rejoining the project in a smaller capacity once her schedule cleared), he does so in a sing - song fashion that presumably is supposed to come off folksy - friendly but quickly becomes more than a little obnoxiously self - amused.
The long
