Multi-centennial-scale changes in East Asian typhoon frequency during the mid-Holocene This study reconstructs a record of typhoon frequency over the Korean Peninsula during the mid-Holocene using mineral components and
diatom assemblages in deposits of Lagoon Hyangho, located on the east coast of the peninsula.
We assess atmospheric versus oceanic influences on glacial discharge at this location, using analyses of diatom geochemistry to reconstruct atmospherically forced glacial ice discharge and
diatom assemblage ecology to investigate the oceanic environment.

Major consequences of such changes over regional scales will probably include (1) reductions in primary production combined with (2) shifts from
diatom - dominated (low SA: V ratio) phytoplankton
assemblages with high POC - export efficiencies to picoplankton communities (high SA: V ratio) characterized by low export efficiencies (Smith et al., 2008; Morán et al., 2010; Morán et al., 2015).

assemblage distributions and their relationship to ecologic, oceanographic, and sedimentary conditions.
These microfossils accumulate in the lake sediments and due to the fact that different species require different environmental conditions, lots can be learned about the environment at the time the lake sediments were deposited from the
diatom fossil
assemblage.
