Why
did GISSTEMP for March fall from 0.81 deg to 0.68 deg?

done by the father of global warming... now, what the heck was his name?»
Looking at the inset (showing the 5 - year averages), it looks to me like UAH is
doing the «diverging», from HadCru, RSS, and
GISSTEMP.
In reality there is a huge diversity of opinion within the skeptic side, like: it's cooling; it's warming (but not as much as
GISSTemp says); whatever the temperature is
doing, it's caused by cosmic rays, or PDO, or sunspots, or recovery from the LIA...; CO2 is a greenhouse gas (but the feedbacks are negative); CO2 is not a greenhouse gas.....
But Smokey is the one who brought up the divergence issue, claiming that
GISSTemp was
doing the diverging.
You haven't
done any real statistical testing even for US48, so it is even premature to make any conclusions concerning the
GISSTEMP US48 results, not to speak of the algorithm in general.
An analysis of the figures will show why — NASA
GISSTEMP shows a warming trend since 2000, whereas HADCRUT3
does not.
GISSTEMP it seems doesn't want us to know what they've been busy
doing.
So long as Dr Hansen
does not change the algorithm; he can continue to spend budget money extending the plot of
GISSTemp till the cows come home; and add no knowledge to our understanding of planet earth.
He doesn't say whose data he used but I checked this with HadCRUT3 and NASA
GISStemp (he cites right wing propaganda site scienceandpublicpolicy.org but they have no obvious temperature data).
