As to what individuals can
do, HSUS recommends spaying or neutering their
dogs and cats,
adopting from shelters or
rescue groups, and considering all the ramifications of pet ownership before deciding to take on a cat or
dog in the first place.
No matter the breed, if you
adopt a
dog, discuss temperament testing (
rescue groups and shelters usually
do this before placing pets up for adoption).
For almost 14.5 years I have had 2
dogs that we
adopted in 2001 from our local SPCA — back then I
did not even know «
rescues» existed.
Six months ago when we were ready to
adopt another
dog after two of my seniors passed I was told by two German Shepherd
rescues (both NKLA partners) that I could not
adopt because (1) I had chickens and (2) our vacation home didn't have a permanent fence (we put it up when we are there and take it down when we leave.

adopting rescue dogs but rather attempt to discuss some of those potentially wrong reasons for
adopting a
dog, some of which may
do more harm than good, and when
rescue may not be for you (and our editor Samantha has further expanded on this topic in her podcast episode).

The perk to
adopting an adult
rescue dog is that any damage
done by improper care during the first few months of life will likely have already emerged.
I know that the
rescue I work with just added a blank on the adoption application that asks what people will
do if they become unable to care for the
dogs they
adopt from us.
Whether you're
adopting a
rescue dog from a shelter, or you're buying a
dog from a breeder, don't be afraid to ask questions!
Before
adopting a German Shorthaired Pointer from breed - specific
rescue or purchasing one from a breeder, make sure to
do your homework in investigating if your particular choice of pooch has a history of genetic or acquired ailments and always strive to get the healthiest possible
dog.
People often mistakenly think that if they can't
adopt a
dog or foster there is nothing they can
do for a breed
rescue.
But, beyond
doing a «good deed»,
adopting a
rescue dog can be the best decision and addition to the family you ever made.

adopt animals from their local animal control facilities, we
do not divulge the locations of the
dogs we are
rescuing out of respect to our contacts there.

rescue is a better idea than
adopting a
dog you haven't met and don't know much about.

foster makes 5 why in the world would you even support this statement working in
rescue (unless you
rescue all puppies that would make sense), this statement is the # 1 reason why people don't
adopt, especially don't
adopt adult
dogs and absolutely for sure don't
adopt adult «pit bulls» or «pit bull type»
dogs.
What really puzzles me is why complain if you
do not want to
adopt a
dog from a
rescue go to the pound.
The best thing you can
do when you
adopt a
dog from a
rescue is training them.
If you are planning to purchase,
adopt, or
rescue a
dog and you have children,
do your research and talk to as many breeders,
dog owners, and trainers as possible.
She was 12 years old when we
adopted her (we put in our name with a
rescue organization for an «older
dog» but didn't expect some
dog THAT old) and we feel that she definitely knew that her former owners brought her to the Norwalk hospital to be put down because the wife had allergies!

dogs came from or you want an older Frenchie to
adopt or you just want to save an abandoned or abused Frenchie, please check out various
rescues out there that have numerous Frenchies available for adoption.
This year, Sydney
Dogs and Cats Home is planning on building a bigger home for
rescued animals in Sydney council areas, with the aim to build Sydney's largest charity pound and community facility that
does not place a time limit for animals needing to be
adopted.

dog even though he is already alters or you have no intentions to breed.

adopt to her because she didn't have written landlord permission... thing is the LAW here says she doesn't need it for a service
