do know that I reduced the butter to just 1 tablespoon, used Jennie - O Italian turkey sausage in place
of the pork / beef combo, doubled the amount
of mushrooms, and subbed in Bolthouse farms plant milk in place
of the heavy
cream.
While this recipe
does not use
cream of mushroom soup, it is a yummy casserole dish for those days when comfort food is beckoning.

cream of mushroom soup, real Mexican food doesn't have this stuff in it.
My son (who uses his chilli as a vehicle for copious amounts
of sour
cream, cheese and tortilla chips) is a bit
of a
mushroom - phobe, but he didn't even notice the shitake
mushrooms.
This recipe
does not call for canned
cream of mushroom, so you get to make your own sauce!
I try to package «meal makers» — canned chicken with boxes
of Rice a Roni,
mushroom soup, tuna and noodles, Velveeta or other process cheese that
does not need refrigeration, pepperoni sticks, non refrigeratable pizza crusts, canned pizza sauces applesauce in plastic jars, cans
of chicken and dumplings, SPAM or Treet luncheon meat, Pop Tarts, fruit snacks, instant oatmeal or
cream of wheat.
Once chicken is
done shred or cut up in to bite size pieces, mix in with rice, cheddar cheese to taste,
cream of mushroom can (1 -2 cans) and chopped up fresh broccoli.
He doesn't even know he hasn't consumed
cream of mushroom or other garbage for months!
