It shouldn't be surprising though, we are bombarded by societal standards of what beauty is (and isn't) on a daily basis and we are constantly receiving messages on what / how to eat
via diet culture.

against diet culture and focus on intuitive eating is an interesting thing since, at its core, it's supposed to be about learning to listen to what your body wants.
This means throwing all food rules out and unlearning much of
what diet culture has taught about what you «should» or «shouldn't» eat.
The flavour of the moment, at least in the circles I run in, is overwhelmingly in favour of intuitive eating, a process in which one is meant to get deeply in tune with their hunger, cravings, and satisfaction cues in order to break free from the confines of
diet culture once and for all.

of diet culture I have learned to reduce my anxiety around food and meal times, and just enjoy them for what they are: a chance to nourish my body and connect to people I love the most.
There's rarely mind chatter in the line of «
diet culture» thinking, i.e. too much, guilt about eating this or that, wanting a different body or trying to control the one I have, etc..
Her positive relationship with food strayed off course during adolescence because of the mixed messages regarding nutrition, the differentiation between «good» and «bad» foods, and
diet culture.
But just because «
diet culture» is everywhere does not mean you have to be a part of it if you don't want to be.
Food brings us health and connection, BUT it doesn't deserve the amount of power that we give it in
diet culture.
In
this diet culture world, we actually might be UNDER eating!

diet culture, sometimes it's easier to translate the concepts of intuitive eating into another diet — a hunger / fullness diet — rather than work toward food freedom.

I have come to this work after seeing the damage done by a focus on weight loss and
diet culture.
We also talked about Oprah's long struggle with dieting, promoting
diet culture, and her infamous bucket of fat.
Most people experience some sort of disordered eating because of
diet culture.
