but this game has: smoother gameplay, better
combat, arm switching for cover, an amazing campaign, tighter and more intense multiplayer, deeper customization, more
maps,
maps from the past, improved visuals, great music to fit the game, and finally yes an escalations mode but it does feel
different enough in some areas to be a small plus.
On a more positive note: The
maps are huge and unique in geography, the vehicles are very much fun to use, all of them, except maybe the inflatable landing boats, and the
combat roles the
different classes play out is refreshing: The sniper can lay down claymores and sit back, plinking enemies from, in some
maps, perhaps up to a quarter of a mile away, considering he / she is good, and has a good gaming rig, the
combat medic can heal allies, and revive those who were fragged, saving them from having to respawn back at base, the support guy can lay down suppressing fire and resupply his allies with ammo, the spec ops guy can sabotage bridges, vehicles, and team assets (such as artillery and UAV trailers) with sticky C4 charges (pity the soldier who takes off in a jet only to have it explode in midflight from a hidden c4 charge stuck on it's body), The engineer repairs vehicles and lays down anti-tank mines, the anti-armour troop works on destroying said vehicles with wire - guided rockets (note that the armour guy in bf2 has his own gun ALONG with a pistol, not just a pistol like in 1942), and the assault guy....
Pairing two units up to double - team an enemy unit is also gone, and
map design is definitely simpler with objectives rarely being anything
different than killing all enemy units on the field — which is a shame given the high's the Conquest campaign of Fire Emblem Fates reached with its
combat scenarios.
Typically the
combat takes place in stages, with the boss monster retreating to
different areas on the
map when they become injured.
Unit pathing can be a problem as you order a group of soldiers across the
map only for half of them to wander off on a
different route, while occasionally unresponsive commands can be frustrating during the frantic
combat where finding your heroes amidst the scrum is a pain sometimes.
You are dumped into an open world where you ride your horse to
different dungeons, there is «Z targeting» in the
combat, «bottles» that hold health, a hookshot - like gadget, a boomerang type gadget, big boss keys to take you to a big red skull room on the
map, boss fights that require the use of equipment gained in their respective dungeon, heart containers at the end of dungeons, you need to collect several pieces of a world saving item, you even fight a shadow version of yourself.

map, named Villa, that will apparently provide players
different combat situations to adapt to.
Of course, hardcore Call of Duty fans will be keen to climb the usual Prestige levels available and progress onto Prestige Master, but if you're just a casual to the series looking for some multiplayer FPS action, you'll find nothing
different other than the
maps and appearance to that of previous entries — other than the boots on the ground
combat of course.
