The jet streams are indeed intimately associated with differences in the nature of
the different parcels of air that merge in high latitudes.
Such changes in PE relative to KE result in density differences which cause
different parcels of air to change their weights and rise or fall at different rates.

of the GHGs from collisions with other atmospheric molecules in the LTE limit.
That is caused by the convective circulation induced there due to hydrostatic instability
of air parcels of different density (via gas law equivalent to
different temperature).
The DALR is established in Earth's atmosphere by vertically moving macroscopic
parcels of air driven by thermal convection between volumes and surfaces at
different temperatures, temperature gradients maintained by diurnal solar forcing and continual radiative cooling.
