An employment of these datasets will lead to somewhat
different values of the solar variability, which is, however, covered by our rough order of magnitude estimate of the overall uncertainty of the reconstruction.

Actually, though, most
of the OLR originates from below the tropopause (can get up around 18 km in the tropics, generally lower)-- with a majority
of solar radiation absorbed at the surface, a crude approximation can be made that the area emitting to space is less than 2 * (20/6371) * 100 % ~ = 0.628 % more than the area heated by the sun, so the OLR per unit area should be well within about 0.6 %
of the
value calculated without the Earth's curvature (I'm guessing it would actually be closer to if not less than 0.3 %
different).
When Rawls claims the early - mid 20th century
solar changes are responsible for late - 20th response, it occurs to me, given all the
different timescales in the system, most
of which I don't know the
values for, that I don't have a feel for what the response to a pure -
solar forcing might look like (leaving energy balance questions aside — just what is the shape
of the curves?)
When choosing between installers,
solar customers often want to know how to compare the
value of different project designs.
The
solar forcing in our reconstruction is determined by the relative
values of the modulation potential, which means that change to a
different LIS model will introduce only several percents
of correction, which is much less than the estimated accuracy
of the reconstruction.
The Clean Power Research report estimated levelized
values for a fleet
of 30 - degree - south - tilted distributed
solar arrays (which yielded the highest
values of all the
different configurations) in seven
different locations across New Jersey and Pennsylvania: The sum
of all
values ranges from $ 256 / MWh to $ 318 / MWh in the various locations studied.
The Lab's 2015 Selling Into the Sun report analyzed sales
of solar - equipped homes in eight
different states over 11 years with the goal
of determining just how much
value solar adds to a home's sale price.
