While you could certainly rush through the main game in around five hours the first time around, you do have multiple
difficulty modes on offer, with one unlocked after completing the game on hard.

It also marks a great jumping
on point for newcomers with a more balanced
difficulty level and a decent checkpoint / continue system, but
offers plenty of harder
modes for the die - hard fans.
If you enjoy challenges, the game
offered Survival
mode that had a different
difficulty option depending
on your skills.
There's a pretty hefty singleplayer
offering here compared to most modern shooters, with around 10 - 12 hours of gameplay
on Normal
mode, though any Gears veteran is going to want to instantly up the
difficulty as Normal
offers little challenge, even for a completely new gamer.
The time limit will vary depending
on the
difficulty you choose, with the «Relaxed»
mode offering you a full week.
Besides being able to go back through the campaign
on harder
difficulties, you can also enjoy the Challenge
mode, which
offers smaller scenarios that are quite varied and pretty fun, depending
on which aspects of the game appeal to you.
The AI that you face in both the campaign, skirmish and Theater of War
modes can
offer a significant challenge, even
on the normal
difficulty setting, but it can behave in odd ways.
I'm looking forward to the increased challenge the game is set to
offer on Hard
difficulty (I briefly tested hard
mode for this review, but it was not immediately clear where the increased
difficulty comes into play).
The game and its sequel feature a unique «Ego» system, which
offers fine - grained control of
difficulty on a per - user basis, which has been widely praised for its ability to level the playing field in cooperative and competitive
modes.
Destiny's raids were the most fun FPS content I've played, with the
difficulty of beating it
on Hard
mode giving the same satisfaction (or maybe even more) that Dark Souls
offered.
Players can take advantage of the same great action found
on the console game as well as a full 3 - D functionality made possible by NVIDIA technology and a PC - exclusive hardcore
mode which
offers a higher level of
difficulty.
Single player
mode contains easy, medium, and hard
difficulty settings, and the challenge
offered varies
on a fair basis.
Rounding out the package is a new Master
Mode difficulty, Hero's Path
mode for tracking up to 200 hours of footsteps
on the map, a warp point inducing Travel Medallion, eight new armor pieces
offering unique effects and an adorable Korok Mask for finding those last few elusive mischief makers.
That said, with the five
difficulty modes offered, rally enthusiasts are in for a challenge
on Pro Am and beyond.
All of these different game -
modes can be played
on either easy normal or hard
difficulties through the seven different levels (tracks) the game has to
offer.
What's more; the game also
offer collectables in the shape of Nuggets of Truth as well as the True West
mode which adds the additional challenge of going through the campaign
mode on a harder
difficulty without any HUD
on the screen.
