It is similar to the Xtreme 2 (198 nits), but
dimmer than the Fire Kids (296 nits).
When viewed outside, side by side, the iPad Air 2 was clearly
dimmer than the Fire HDX, but reflected less of buildings and plants nearby.
As for brightness, the panel goes up to 335 nits, which is adequate but
dimmer than the Fire HD 8's 380 nits and the 385 - nit tablet category average.

At 436 lux, the
Fire HD is slightly
dimmer than the original
Fire (460 lux), but outshone both the Nexus 7 (314 lux) as well as the category average (355 lux).
Measuring 304 lux (298 nits) on our light meter, the Iconia is
dimmer than the average tablet (359 lux), the Venue 8 (359 lux), the MeMO Pad (358 lux) and the stunning
Fire HDX (436 lux).
In low light or darkness, I used to us an app to
dim the
Fire screen even further
than its minimum; not sure if that's true of the latest
Fires.
My (admittedly rather
dim) understanding is that coal
fired plants are cheaper to build
than NPPs.
