Now we come to not only one of my most
disappointing films of the year but what is, as far as I'm concerned, one of the worst films of the year; Zack Snyder's exploitative, crass and repetitive Sucker Punch.
And here are the five most
disappointing films of the year: Fantastic Four (choppy and compromised superhero action), Sisters (corny comedy that's simply not smart enough), Southpaw (bogs down in boxing drama cliches), Pan (childish and manic kids» adventure), Black Mass (oddly unoriginal mob thriller).
And here are the five most
disappointing films of the year: On the Road (Michael Winterbottom's Wolf Alice tour movie can't even find something interesting in its fictional subplot), Hampstead (a painfully strained romantic comedy set in a twee version of London), The Book of Henry (Colin Trevorrow missteps with this convoluted thriller), The Snowman (Michael Fassbender struggles to sustain this lifeless Scandinavian mystery) and Pitch Perfect 3 (it's painful to watch the Bellas try their hand at action - comedy).
I had such high expectations for it and it ended up the most
disappointing film of the year for me.
Oscar - winning actress Natalie Portman teams up with Oscar - nominee James Franco and Danny McBride for the most

Part
of the problem is the copany's
films disappointed at the box office last
year.
Take a Pulitzer Prize - winning author's first original screenplay, attach a respected director whose last
film was considered a disappointment by many, and add a cast that includes Michael Fassbender (one
of the highlights
of that
disappointing film), Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, and Cameron Diaz, and you have a solid formula for one
of the most anticipated
films of the
year.
Even
years later this is still one
of the most
disappointing films of all time.

If anything, I think I was probably too gentle on the
film in theaters, a reflection
of my ability to see the good in superhero movies that are even widely deemed
disappointing (like last
year's Fantastic Four).
Yet I find myself
disappointed in this installment, not because there was some grandiose finale that didn't deliver, but because this wasn't the funniest
film of the
year.
While the movie does earn some credit for sidestepping the typical, cheap happy ending, there are no new ideas to set it apart from the plethora
of cookie - cutter,
disappointing horror
films that have come out in recent
years.
The sad news is that this
year's Vanguard, at least for me personally, will not live up to previous
years, as the three
films that I have seen from the program are all various degrees
of disappointing.
