THE DVD Reissued to capitalize on the DVD debut of Jolie's Taking Lives, HBO's
unrated edition of Gia is new to the format and runs approximately five minutes longer than the broadcast
version familiar to owners of the previous
disc.
A single -
disc DVD containing the theatrical and
unrated versions of the film will also be available on January 29th.
Automatically streaming random trailer content on startup, the Paramount
disc comes packaged with DVD and Ultraviolet copies of the film's
unrated version.
This release features both the R - rated original
version and the
unrated new cut on the same Blu - ray
disc.

Seriously, there is no reason why the full screen
version of the movie (both in theatrical and
unrated form) and half the extras should be on one side of the
disc, while the wisescreen
version and the rest of the extras should be on the other.
For review we received the widescreen «
Unrated Version,» which runs five minutes longer than the theatrical cut, though the
disc provides no indication of what's been restored to the film.
Note that this
disc contains only the 100 - minute
Unrated Director's Cut prepared for DVD in 1999; for comparison's sake, it would be nice if the the long - OOP 96 - minute theatrical
version were included, but again this release is not exactly an act of curation.
According to the press release, the final retail
version of the
Unrated DVD edition offers only a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, whereas the Theatrical Cut holds that and a 1.33:1 fullscreen
version on opposite sides of a flipper
disc.
Both
versions of the film, the theatrical and the
unrated, are presented on separate
discs, with the latter utilizing HD inserts from the previous Universal transfer to complete it.
Featured on the first
disc of the set are both
versions of the film, the theatrical R - rated cut and the
unrated version (which contains ten minutes of never - before - seen footage), as well as two full - length audio commentaries.
On
Disc Two, which contains the
unrated version of the film, there's an audio commentary with zombie performers Matt Blazi, Glena Chao, Michael Felsher, and Rob Mayr; another audio commentary with George A. Romero, producer Peter Grunwald, and editor Michael Doherty; the When Shaun Met George with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright featurette; the Bringing the Dead to Life featurette; a Scenes of Carnage montage; Zombie Effects: From Green Screen to Finished Scene; the oddball Scream Tests: Zombie Casting Call CGI test; Bringing the Storyboards to Life split - screen comparison; the Undead Again: The Making of Land of the Dead featurette; and A Day with the Living Dead featurette.
Disc One features an
unrated version of the movie (it's only three minutes longer than the theatrical cut), an audio commentary by the director, Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, Rose Byrne and a couple others, and three in - depth featurettes, including one on the making of the movie and one on the music written for the movie (that one's a can't miss).

unrated version of the film that proved to be too much for the MPAA.

DVD Review: After releasing a barebones
disc earlier in the year, the men of Broken Lizard have finally put out an
unrated version that should have unlocked the deleted comic genius that was missing in the theatrical cut, but it fails miserably.
