As of August 2014, 8 percent of Direct Loan borrowers and 21 percent of borrowers from the now -
discontinued Federal Family Education Loan program are in default.
The legislature in Washington directed the state to raise eligibility under the program from 200 % to 250 % of the
federal poverty level, reversing an earlier attempt by the state agency, as part of a larger effort to cut state expenditures, to
discontinue its existing Medicaid
family planning expansion.
