In order to address these serious and timely issues, Global Green's Security and Sustainability Program is organizing a series
of roundtable
discussions, «Energy
Futures: Nuclear Power, Global Warming, and Nonproliferation,» to address the full
life - cycle
of nuclear energy.
It is interesting to see how, in the debate about the
future of the planet, it is children that have lost their
lives that carry greater weight than the
discussion about what those
lives could have been.
Similar to the dialogue between pupils from St. Gallen and Lilongwe, the
discussion lead to the realization
of the Swiss students that climate change is not an abstract notion
of the
future, but is already impacting the
lives of their peers across the globe.
We're a non-profit that, since 1993, has developed innovative
discussion materials with the purpose
of educating people on how to
live more sustainably and toward a more enriching
future.
Given the often invoked rationale underlying the use
of the
living tree metaphor, it is ironic indeed that in constitutionalizing these political and social issues, the courts have «frozen» those issues in time, and thereby immunized those issues from
future and evolving civic engagement,
discussion and debate.
