The idea that small LDL particles are the only bad ones and large LDL is benign is just something made up
by people selling
low carb diets as a way to excuse one of the biggest flaws of the diet, which is that it raises your LDL
cholesterol and consequently your risk of developing heart
disease.
In other words, we already have «solid evidence» that vegetable oils prevent heart
disease, and we can be quite certain that part of the way they do this is
by lowering cholesterol, but we are still wondering just how they
lower cholesterol and whether they do any other cool stuff to boot.
In several clinical trials of interventions designed to
lower plasma
cholesterol, reductions in coronary heart
disease mortality have been offset
by an unexplained rise in suicides and other violent deaths
Combined with stressful and sedentary lifestyles, and particularly when complicated
by cholesterol -
lowering medication, this amounts to nothing less than a blueprint for creating Alzheimer's
disease and other forms of neurological degeneration.
In fact, Morgan, Palinkas, Barrett - Connor, and Winged (1993) articulate this with, «In several clinical trials of interventions designed to
lower plasma
cholesterol, reductions in coronary heart
disease mortality have been offset
by an unexplained rise in suicides and other violent deaths» (p. 75).
Other powerful anti-inflammatory compounds in pumpkin are selenium, Omega - 3 fatty acids, and sterols, all of which also contribute to prevent cardiovascular
diseases by reducing
cholesterol levels and
lowering blood pressure.
It is also free of
cholesterol and has
low levels of saturated fat, both of which are promoted
