While I love the look
of all
neutrals or simple stacks
of white
dishes like I have in my kitchen, I happen to love life and real life is full
of patterns,
colors and textures.
The way a collection
of white
dishes look all piled behind a glass cupboard, the way a reading chair can invite you in to a moment
of solitude because
of the way it positioned in a room, the beauty
of simplicity when you see a pleasing arrangement
of beautiful objects on top
of a console table, the joy
of a burst
of color in a mostly
neutral room.
One
of the things I was most excited about in choosing a simple
neutral color scheme for my kitchen (with charcoal base cabinets and white uppers) is that I could have fun by adding colorful
dishes, books, towels or accessories.
Adding a pop
of spring
color to my home is truly like therapy for me, a happy dose
of color or pattern mixed in among my
neutral dishes always makes me smile.
A set
of simple and inexpensive white
dishes (such as these I picked up at the dollar store for $ 1 each) as well as these
neutral colored table linens (that I bought at Homesense) compliment any table setting.
Instead
of having four sets
of dishes in various
colors and patterns, keep one basic set in a
neutral color and fancy it up with colorful salad plates or glasses.
Colorful
dishes and kitchen gadgets add a touch
of color to the
neutral kitchen.
