The system is buffered (mostly by
dissolved calcium compounds) so can not change much in the absence of a temperature change or a change to the pH of the ocean surface layer.
All
the dissolved calcium compounds accumulate in the arteries, veins, skin tissue, and organs.
To see what remained of this internal structure, Schweitzer soaked samples of the core of the bone in a solution that
dissolved the calcium compounds.
