Some people prefer to
distress after waxing but I prefer to do it before so my sanding block doesn't get all «gummed» up.
I don't think I would
distress after waxing unless you don't want much distressing but that's just how I did it — good luck!!
Also -(and for example) if you painted a piece in Graphite while it is sitting in an all white room that has white carpet, I would still put a drop cloth down and
distress after waxing.
Annie Sloan recommends to
distress after waxing.....
Of course, we all do things a little different so
distressing after you wax is also not a big deal.

In the past, I have always
distressed Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ® by hand with sandpaper, sometimes before
waxing and sometimes
after - both ways have worked for me.

After distressing, she added a small amount of dark
wax to bring out some of the details on the piece.
If you sand
AFTER waxing - it takes a bit more elbow grease, and you will probably want to add another layer of clear
wax to protect the raw areas you sanded... but if this is your first time ever painting and
distressing... by having a
wax application on the painted piece first - you won't accidentally take off too much paint, as you learn how to finesse the sand paper with the right amount of pressure.
No white undercoat I actually don't do a two coat process that often I really love having the wood color show
after the
distressing and then just some clear
wax.
by

wax it actually gives you a lot more control when you are sanding since it allows you to expose layers of paint or wood underneath gradually.

In your other videos I interpreted that you paint with your chalk paint (1 or 2 coats dependent), then

wax clear (working it down into paint, wiping off excess), sometimes put on a second coat of clear (same as above), and then if desired

So
after a couple coats of paint, I lightly
distressed the piece and finished it off with a coat of clear
wax and dark
wax.
For a
distressed finish, rub gently with fine sand paper
AFTER applying the Clear
Wax while the
wax is still «wet» (approx. 30 min.)
