do WebQuests benefit students?
What
does this webquest offer your students?
When it came time to
do the WebQuest, this is how it worked: Students were arranged in pairs, and each pair chose a planet in the solar system.
Every student acquired new literacy skills related to the computer, and they all said they enjoyed the activity and would like to
do another WebQuest.
I should mention, however, that
we did the WebQuest in March.
The week before my students actually
did the WebQuest, I modeled how it would work.
I have found that students enjoy
doing webquests.
Not exact matches

did lots of journaling in language arts classes, used various technologies in her science classes, and
did quite a few
Webquest - like activities in social studies classes.

The best way of
doing that is to try someone else's
WebQuest with your class.
Don't use the
WebQuest format to pursue questions that have only one right answer, such as finding the official birds of each state or finding the volume of each of the pyramids.
You don't need anything fancy to put a
WebQuest together.
Crafting an engaging assignment is something seasoned teachers can
do in their sleep, and it's a critical part of designing a successful
WebQuest.
Dodge: There are lots of worthwhile things to
do with the Web in schools, and
WebQuests are just one possibility.

If you've
done the work of preparing a good
WebQuest ahead of time (or selecting one made by someone else), you have a more gratifying day, by working with individuals and small groups as a coach rather than having to keep all those eyes on you as the only source of data in the room.
