doing housework shirtless, I was right along beside him shirtless
too trying to be just like him.
All
too often I notice mothers talking about feeling guilty about not getting
housework done, worrying about «bad habits» relating to where their baby or child sleeps or how they fall asleep.
There are seedlings to plant, bee boxes to put together before the bees arrive, recital costumes to finish hemming, meals to freeze, writing deadlines I'm behind on,
housework that I've fallen way behind on
too... and I sure could use some of that wonderful pre-baby nesting energy I've come to rely upon in pregnancies past to get some of these things
done.
The amount of time parents spent
doing housework has changed significantly
too.
And yes, I also loved attachment parenting, and even with all that, I wish I could go back now so I could have
done more with my kids — I feel
housework was way overated in those days (maybe today
too).
And I know I am lucky; my husband is thoughtful, hands - on with the kids, and he
does his fair share of
housework too.

If you relax about
housework and don't take on
too many other responsibilities, you have more time to rest and can cope better even when you are sleep - deprived.
But there are drawbacks
too: the potential isolation of working at home alone, or the dips in productivity when you find yourself making mental excuses to
do random
housework instead of actually working.
There are some really heartbreaking stories in there and they make those of us complaining about
too many emails and tweets and blog posts to read look pretty darn weak, but it doesn't matter if what is mentally exhausting you is
housework or surgery or keeping up with the news.
I
do feel we complain
too much about
housework, though.
They may not
do it perfectly (hey, I don't
do it perfectly either), but it's a good opportunity to teach kids about
housework (and have some affordable help,
too).
