sleep with our babies, time our nursing sessions, supplement with formula, use pacifiers (and a myraid of other behaviors that disrupt ancient hormonal production during lactation).
Co-
sleeping doesn't mean that I no longer get any time alone, it just means that, for now, I'm
sleeping with an extra
human being next to me.

personal preferences, influenced by recent Western cultural values and social ideology, NOT studies of the natural biology and needs of the
human infant have argued against babies arousing at night to feed a lot; and, indeed, the «
sleep like a baby» or «shush the baby is
sleeping» model, while some kind of western ideal is NOT what babies are designed to
do nor experience, and it is definitely not in their own biological or emotional or social best interest.

Diaper changes, milk feedings, no
sleep (like, never ever), our bodies healing from bringing a
HUMAN BEING into the world, wild and uncontrollable emotions, having to cope with the idea of actually leaving those little babies and going back to work... Sounds like a dream, doesn't it?
The only thing that makes sense is community living, or living with parents and grandparents to share the burden, it simply doesn't make any sense otherwise,
sleep is a basic
human need.
At some point, we
humans do come to treasure our
sleep and understand how important it is.
(Train them to
sleep alone, play alone, self - soothe, etc.) Baby gadgets, bottles, binkies, vibrating chairs, swings, baby monitors, etc.
do serve a purpose but we must remember that these are substitutes for real
human touch and interaction: breastfeeding, holding, rocking, carrying, and attentive parenting.
When you look at this cute little
human you see a bundle of preciousness that can't
do much other than eat, poop and
sleep.
This was working for a while (by working, I mean I stopped feeling like a
human bottle and Maggie seemed to be getting more satisfying feedings), but I was also
