The primary sweetener in this
granola is pureed dates, which I thought sounded awful (I don't
like dates) when I first read the recipe; however, going on my sister's recommendation, I gave it a try.

I am not a crunchy
granola Mom, but I
do like to have options.
I found this step to be totally worthwhile, but if you're not up to it you can
do any of the following: (1) simply omit the chips, in which case the
granola will be nonetheless delicious, (2) buy a bag of banana chips and toss them in, though watch out for fried banana chips, which you are welcome to use, though they will add significantly to the recipe's fat content, or (3) throw in some alternative source of dried fruity sweet and chewiness,
like raisins or dates.
Since I don't really
like oatmeal for breakfast that much, I figured trying out different
granola bar recipes would be a good way to use my oats.
However,
like the name implies, it's a «customizable»
granola recipe, so that's exactly what I
did... customized it to fit my
likes (and what I had in my pantry over this particular weekend)!
I
like tart cherries, but if you don't this
granola would work equally well with sweet cherries.

I have not bothered with making homemade
