I have never seen that textbook in the United States, and that is because political interests linked to fossil fuels have ensured that we don't
do renewable energy research in this country.
And the guy still couldn't
do renewable energy research.

So, too,

«My
research is primarily centered on converting us from a fossil fuel - based infrastructure to a

Most forms of
renewable energy are intermittent, says Elias Siores at the Institute for Materials
Research and Innovation at the University of Bolton in the UK — the wind doesn't always blow and the skies aren't always cloud - free.

The NSF doesn't have money to expand programs beyond their current scope, and if they
did, social sciences are not where they should spend their money —
renewable energy research is.
My advice to any young aspiring scientist who wants to
do cutting edge
renewable energy research?
One obvious question is why the DOE doesn't fund
renewable energy research, but
does come up with billions for coal - to - gas
research.
It really points to very serious widespread problems in the U.S. academic and journalistic professions — you can't
do research on
renewable energy in the U.S. academic system, because of fossil fuel influence, and you can't get honest coverage of
renewable energy initiatives in the U.S. press, also because of undue influence by vested interests — and more often than not these days, those vested interests are in finance, not in industry.
Second, if divestment were to reduce the financial resources of coal, oil, and gas companies (which it would NOT
do), this would only reduce
research and development at those same companies of: carbon capture and storage technologies; other key technological breakthroughs; and
renewable sources of
energy (the fossil fuel companies are carrying out much of the R&D on
renewables).
Hell, why don't leftists get together and invest in
renewable energy research.
«If we can directly store solar
energy as a chemical fuel, like what nature
does with photosynthesis, we could solve a fundamental challenge of
renewable energy,» says Zetian Mi, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Michigan who led the
research while at McGill University.
Usual investment criteria may not deliver the super low - cost, clean,
renewable energy soon enough to avoid the worst effects of climate change,» said Dr. Larry Brilliant, Executive Director of Google.org, Google's philanthropic arm, «Google.org's hope is that by funding
research on promising technologies, investing in promising new companies, and
doing a lot of R&D ourselves, we may help spark a green electricity revolution that will deliver breakthrough technologies priced lower than coal.»

Please
do not continue to accept stakeholders» perspectives without balancing their claims, which are based on projections of huge financial gains for the
renewable energy entrepreneurs and investors or on idealistic environmentalists, against solid scientific
research (governmental, academic and independent consultants in Ontario, Canada and internationally).
Taken together, learning by
doing and economies of scale mean that a
research only approach would not drive down prices as quickly as policies that actually install more
renewable energy.
I received an MS in Ocean Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz a few years ago (in the area of marine nitrogen fluxes); at the time I was a recipient of an NSF Graduate Student Fellowship in microbiology — and I transferred into the Biochemistry department hoping to go into
renewable energy research, which seemed to be very interesting, important and useful work — I was particularly interested in algal biochemistry (a great oil source) or fungal enzymes (for cellulose digestion)-- but when I took these proposals to the Dean of Graduate Studies, he shook his head and said «You will never be able to find funding for this kind of work — can't you
do something else?»
