So the burning question is
do soap nuts really work?

Soap nuts are a super affordable and non-toxic way to
do laundry.
On a recent trip to our local Whole Foods in search of
soap nuts (and not only
did they not have any, they had never heard of them!)

I washed them (cold water, gentle cycle with my
soap nuts) and air dryed them and they
did not shrink any for me although they may if you dry them.
Still, I didn't actually experience the wonder of
soap nuts for myself until much later when I had the opportunity to try some from Olive Shoot Institute.
Sometimes it takes me an extra minute to find the
soap nuts bag but really, if I
do dry them (yeah, it's happened a couple times) it's no big deal.
And if you
do a cold wash, you need an extra couple minutes to make a
soap nut tea (which is not complicated at all).
Soap nuts have to travel from around the world and they don't last long.
Detergents we
DO N'T LIKE - Allen's, Dr. Bronner's, 7th generation,
Soap Nuts, Method, Shaklee, any other «free and clear» detergents (powder or liquid)
Don't expect the
Soap nut shells to foam up like commercial
soaps, which have artificial foaming agents.

The tiny berries are 100 percent non-toxic so you don't ever have to worry if your little one grabs a handful of
soap nuts and shoves them into their mouth (unlike many laundry detergent pods which are extremely dangerous if consumed)

And of course further, come in either powdered or liquid formats (
soap nuts obviously don't fit in either camp).
The seed
does not contain any saponin, the natural
soap ingredient, so it is not needed at all unless you wish to grow your own
soap nut trees which take about 9 years to produce any fruit.
If you have high quality clothing that you would like to keep in good condition for a long time, you may find eventually that the
soap nuts do not accomplish this for you.
Before leaving home in November, I
did my laundry with
soap nuts for about a year and the pack isn't even half - empty!
After your wash cycle is complete, just remove the bag of
soap nuts and let it to dry, or use it again right away if you're
doing another load.
