A class - action lawsuit filed recently alleges that Hebrew National's iconic hot
dogs and other
meats do not comport
with the brand's claim to be kosher «as defined by the most stringent Jews who follow Orthodox Jewish law.»
Why don't consumers have a problem
with mechanical seperation or advanced
meat recovery???? You don't want «pink slime,» but you'll eat a hot
dog no problem??
And though foods made
with soy protein isolate (like soy burgers and soy
dogs)
do usually pack less saturated fat than their
meat counterparts, they also tend to be loaded
with sodium and additives, so
do nt make them a staple.
Again, you can substitute another
meat, but you don't need to skimp on the fat
with the hot
dog substitute, as long as the calories are the same.
Now, it could very well be that processed
meat consumers tend to
do other unhealthy things, like not exercise, sleep poorly, eat other processed foods, eat buns
with their hot
dogs and pizza dough
with their pepperoni.
Certainly we
do not want to reduce the amount of healthy
meat a
dog eats, but we can supplement
with the alkaline foods.
When the
dog does potty outside, praise enthusiastically and reward either
with high value food (hot
dog, chicken
meat, etc) or a game of fetch etc..
While companion
dogs are usually kept indoors and often
do not come into contact
with tainted
meat or other wild animals that may have worms, contact
with other
dogs or feces in the park may cause transmission of parasitic worms like heartworm, tapeworm and roundworms.
Toy
dogs need raw bones (
with real
meat) just as much, if not more than
do giant breeds.
Since
dogs are
meat eaters, having a dry
dog food
with a lot of grains doesn't make much sense from a nutritional standpoint.
If peas don't bother your
dog, this is a great food
with lots of good
meat and fish protein and high quality ingredients.
I may not speak about certain names in the industry, but anything marked for
dog youngins will
do just fine:
meat purees,
with or without veggies, and wet or dry puppy food.
However, according to veterinarian Dr. Becker, as long as it is not used as a
meat replacement (which isn't the case
with Fromm Gold) and your
dog is
doing well on the food, there should be no concern.
It takes a little more digestive power and I like to alternate my
dog's poultry
with other
meats that
do not contain bone.
Red
meats like lamb
do contain high levels of cholesterol and high levels of purines and other minerals which should be avoided in
dogs with urinary conditions.
Cat and small
dogs do best
with chicken necks — fed as they come - skin, bone fat and the minimal
meat they contain.
Although your
dog can survive on an all -
meat diet if certain nutrients and minerals are added,
dogs have evolved
with humans long enough that they often
do better on diets more similar to ours.
It's said if you freeze
meat at zero degrees for 3 weeks it will kill parasites but I don't have personal experience
with that, so take that into consideration when selecting
meat for your
dogs.
Don't make the mistake of only feeding your
dog meat with no bone.
But don't let that limited ingredient title fool you, these guys are still loaded up
with fresh
meats to keep your
dog fool and happy.
I tried introducing Natures Variety raw chicken nuggets to my
dog and he refused to go near his bowl so I don't think raw
meat is for him - I know you can add your own
meat with Preference - any thoughts on what
meat I should add?
When giving your
dogs veggies they need to be puréed and only 20 percent of the veggies is to be fed
with their
meat, if
dogs have cancer don't feed sweet potatoes pumpkin carrots or peas as these veggies turn into carbohydrates (sugar) and feed sugar feeds cancer, otherwise these veggies are ok for healthy
dogs.
Any bony
meat is a potential choking hazard that many
dogs don't
