therapy have I been advised by a healthcare practitioner to stop
doing yoga — without a reasonable or specific explanation that I can remember.
How
do these
yoga bodies relate to modern, global, middle - class bodies of
therapy and performance?
As I travel throughout India and the United States to research
yoga therapy, I notice that even masters who write books and articles recommending specific sequences for particular conditions often don't use these sequences when they work with students.
They certainly don't want surgery, nor physical
therapy;
yoga is what they want.
I think it's fine to suggest that students consider bodywork or traditional medical systems, such as Ayurveda, if you think it could be a good complement to their
yoga therapy, but encourage them to
do this with the knowledge of their regular doctors.
It was lovely to meet you at the
Yoga Therapy Summit; too bad we didn't get a chance to discuss this issue in person.

do breathing practices, walking or sitting meditations, listen to relaxing music, journal, go to
therapy, join a supportive community, work with a coach, draw, paint,
do yoga, the possibilities are endless - but having a regular, dedicated practice that you actively make time for daily is more important than fitting your workout in.
