"Docked mode" refers to the state of a electronic device, such as a laptop or smartphone, when it is connected or attached to an external docking station or peripheral, allowing it to receive power and access additional features or connections, like a larger display or extra ports.

Apparently, the console is capable of 1080p when
in docking mode and 720p resolution in handheld mode but to most casual players, this won't make a massive difference.
The dual -
docking mode allows students the option of having the tablet screen face them when using the keyboard or having the tablet screen face their peers to facilitate collaboration.
Moreover we get a new automatic
car dock mode that includes voice controls and a new navigation interface while driving.
While playing this game I see that not only does it play great
in dock mode but in handheld mode as well.
Minecraft now runs at 1080P in
docked mode on Nintendo Switch, as confirmed by the game's official Twitter account.
This is slightly different from the 20 percent who would play in
docked mode for more than 80 percent of the time.
We got our first hands - on opportunity with the Switch version of Wolfenstein II at PAX East 2018 earlier this month; you can see how the game looks running in

But that one time was when I tried to play the game in handheld mode and not the other times when I played in
docked mode so be careful when playing in handheld mode.

Docked mode using a wired ethernet connection, the online service was flawless for me.
This isn't to say
docked mode doesn't perform well because it most certainly does, but it definitely comes with its compromises.
Notably, there used to be hiccups while playing the game in
docked mode of the Nintendo system.

By far the easiest way to play was with a Pro controller though, so I favored
docked mode right from the start.

docked mode features of Nintendo Switch letting you enjoy it either on the big screen or on a handheld.
Docked mode gives better performance than portable mode but I enjoyed it more in portable mode because I found the visuals better suited for a small screen.
The comparison below is between Fe running on the Nintendo Switch in
Docked mode versus the PS4 Pro.
Docked mode follows a similar sort, despite an absent step - up to a 1080p resolution which would have been a nice addition, but is missing here.
The only reason I'm skeptical of that is Zelda's resolution in
docked mode considering it's not as visually demanding as some games on X1 and PS4 which run at 1080p.
It's also locked at 30 fps — I didn't encounter any stutters during the hours I logged — and as far as I can tell, in
docked mode Skyrim runs between 900p and 1080p, whereas in handheld mode it uses the Switch screen's native 720p.
Needless to say, this makes intense firefights a frustrating experience, and the framerate drops still occur in
docked mode too, though feel less severe.
There's of course the
traditional docked mode, where you can play on a TV, but undocked allows players to play split - screen, using each joy - con as a controller.
It can look a tiny bit blurry in
docked mode if you're playing on a huge telly, but because the Switch's screen is a 720p display that means they looks crisp as hell when playing in handheld.
Both handheld and
docked modes look bright and colorful, and seem to run at a smooth enough framerate regardless of the way you stick with.
When playing in handheld mode the air can be pushed out the vents on the back easily, in
dock mode however, this can cause some problems, the heat can stay in place, and may have more difficulties leaving the console.
I played through KONA on my Nintendo Switch mostly in
docked mode because it is a port from PC and I felt that the game should be played on a big screen.

docked mode here, while a dynamic res is deployed in while in handheld mode - in both cases hitting a solid 60 fps
Playing in

In handheld mode, you can certainly see grass and other things pop in as you move forward, and
docked mode doesn't push it out too much further, but unless you fixate on it, it's not distracting.
During my playthrough of Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch, I found myself favoring the handheld mode over
docked mode for numerous reasons.

Docking mode of Desk Mode isays «Unfortunately, Desk Mode has stopped» This really stinks.
Classic arcade games, and other titles can play with an online component, in portable or
docked modes to give gamer players experiences they never knew were possible.
Not to mention that there are several control options such as using the joy - cons in both portable and
docked modes, as well as the Pro Controller.
The gorgeous art design, bright graphics, and smooth animations are all still intact and improved by the higher resolution in
docked mode.

I did notice a couple of frame - rate hiccups during some of the climactic opening encounters in
docked mode, but the game feels smooth overall and sticks more consistently to 60 fps than it did on Wii U.
This control scheme actually holds up pretty well in
docked mode, too.
However, the «Performance» mode drops the resolution down to 720p and boosts the framerate to 60 fps (needless to say this only applies to
docked mode); whether or not this is an acceptable trade - off for you is all down to personal taste, but the smoothness of the action really does make a difference, and we opted to play in Performance during the whole adventure.
In handheld and
docked mode, the game looks bright and colourful.
Additionally, it doesn't seem like much optimization has been done on the game to get it ready for the Switch launch, as the game ran at 720p on the Wii U and it will do so on the Switch in
docked mode, too.
Not content with massive sales on other platforms and burgeoning esports leagues, this Switch port from Panic Button (the studio also behind DOOM on Switch) retains its excellent balance and tight controls in both handheld and
docked mode.
I didn't have a chance to try out this version of the game, though it has been confirmed that the Switch version will run at 30 fps in both handheld and
docked mode.

In performance terms, the game appears to run at 720p in both portable and
docked modes.
