The visuals look great no matter
if you play on the handheld or in
docked mode on the big screen.
If you want to use it in keyboard / stand
mode, you flip up the magnetic kickstand in the keyboard, and the magnets guide the tablet into place, where an 8 - pin
dock joins the two.
That magnetic connector is so quick to separate the screen from the
dock and each of the stand, tent and laptop
modes hold rigid - even
if the laptop
mode is top - heavy in terms of balance.
If you do not want to purchase them, you can stare at the title screen in both handheld
mode AND TV while
docked.
Some games I prefer playing in handheld
mode, but,
if I am playing something on the TV and someone else wants to use it, I'm perfectly happy to pull the tablet out of the
dock and carry on gaming from the sofa.
As
if squeezing a rock - solid 60 fps out of Nintendo's little device (in both
docked and handheld
modes) wasn't enough, VooFoo have jammed in all the previously released DLC and cross-platform (with PC and Xbox, thanks to Sony's anti-consumer approach) play, too.
Nintendo gave devs the option to hold the
dock's graphic power while in mobile
mode to make it easier for devs or
if some problems occur with the switching... BUT THIS EATS THE BATTERY sooo quickly... I guess 3rd party Switch games will eat much more battery and be more buggy during the first year.
Of course, I say this following reports that the game runs at 720p in handheld
mode (and 1080p
docked) at 30 fps, but
if my demo was any indication, I have nothing to worry about on the technical side of things.
There are three ways you'll be able to play your Nintendo Switch; you can
dock the system and enjoy playing games on your TV, or
if you want a more portable experience switch the system into handheld
mode and take your gaming anywhere.
The resolution is noticeably lower, looking to not be far above 720p,
if at all, in
docked, while much lower in handheld
mode.
If we compare this to the Nintendo Switch version, it runs at 900p in
Docked Mode although the Portable resolution is disappointing and runs at 540p resulting in a slightly blurry look in handheld
mode.
The game runs smoothly no matter
if it's
docked or in handheld
mode, and colors pop out regardless of the kingdom.
The twist, though, is that
if you need to leave the house you can remove it from its
dock and «shift» from home console to handheld
mode.
Sure, you can play the game in
docked mode but
if you have Skyrim on any other home console there isn't really much appeal to this.
The Switch should have made more sense
if it's designed like a 720p successor to 3DS with detachable screen that has an AV Out connected to the control pad on portable
mode and connected to a TV on
docked mode.
This puts the phones in serious competition with Samsung, which offers a desktop
mode only
if you purchase the Samsung DeX Station — you can't use the Galaxy S8 or Note 8 when it's in this
docked mode.
And I'm only aware of the Nintendo adapter being adequate
if you want to charge and play the Switch while in
Dock mode.
You can use a floating
dock to have access to both fingerprint gestures and on - screen buttons (meaning quick app switching is possible, even
if you'll still need to enter split - screen
mode via the recent apps overview), but it's an inelegant and rather clumsy solution.
Tablet
mode is a new feature that should automatically activate (
if you want it to) when you detach a tablet from its base or
dock.
