Carl Andre's work is clean, industrial, repetitive and architectural while Mendieta's is spiritual, violent, messy and only beautiful when seen in the haunting color photographs which
document her ephemeral works.
Photography was also enlisted to

Many of the first
works, created in the deserts of U.S.A. (Nevada, New Mexico, Utah or Arizona) were
ephemeral in nature and now only exist as video recordings or photographic
documents.
