As I've shown, there are various strategies to resort to in order to stop
dog digging.
In a domestic setting,
dogs may often
dig out of boredom, frustration or simply
as a way to keep themselves mentally stimulated.

What's even better is if you can find something that challenges their minds
as well
as their bodies such
as agility training, advanced obedience training or «Earth -
dog» training (where pupsters
dig after small critters who are secured in a cage so they can't be harmed).
Since these
dogs are quite active and they thrive on mental stimulation and exercise, they need plenty activity or they may turn to mischief, engaging in unwanted behaviors, such
as barking,
digging, or chewing.

as an «outside only»
dog and it has developed behavior problems like barking,
digging, fence jumping, etc., please realize that many of these problems are easily solved once the
dog is allowed to stay inside the house with the family.
And, if your
dog simply loves to
dig, why not create a special area of the yard where this behavior is acceptable, such
as in a sandbox or a bordered section of the yard.
One word of caution: the Norfolk, like many other earth
dogs, enjoys, no, loves,
digging and this trait is not
as easy to deter
as barking.
