San Antonio (Aug. 16, 2017)-- The Petco Foundation and the ASPCA ® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) are teaming up to provide a substantial grant of $ 1.5 million to
Dogs Playing For Life to expand and elevate its innovative playgroup
enrichment training to shelters across the country.
In addition to providing basic, daily care, an eight - person
enrichment and behavior team takes
dogs on walks, runs doggie
play groups and provides daily, in - kennel
enrichment activities for cats and
dogs.
Our robust
enrichment regimen for
dogs in the shelter includes daily walks,
play group sessions, frozen Kong toys stuffed with treats, a different scent sprayed in the kennels every day of the week (coconut Thursday is the best!)
Thanks to a partnership with the City of Santa Fe and the Bureau of Land Management, the main Shelter is housed on a 100 - acre campus complete with walking trails and
play yards for daily
enrichment for our Shelter residents, as well as single and multi - use public
dog parks.
Volunteers can
play a key role in additional
enrichment activities: Volunteers can walk through the
dog kennels and encourage good behavior by giving treats to
dogs that are quiet and have all four paws on the ground.
