Once a year, large numbers of purebred
dog owners, breeders, and exhibitors get out the spit and polish, pack up their old kit bags, and head for the breed's national specialty, a celebration of their
dogs, an occasion to conduct club business and enjoy social interaction with other owners and enthusiasts, a chance to attend breed
seminars, and an opportunity to raise money for breed
health and rescue committees.
If you are considering purchase of a purebred puppy, a regional or national specialty is an excellent place to see lots of
dogs of the breed, ask questions, attend a
seminar about breed
health or structure, and see some great
dogs.
Sanctioning is one of the first steps toward being approved to hold AKC
dog shows and obedience trials, a long - range goal of the club.Sproul and other club officers say they are making a determined effort to continue the programs that Seminole has initiated.The Seminole club has initiated such programs as annual purebred
dog exhibitions demonstrating important aspects of owning, raising and training
dogs;
health seminars that bring in experts to discuss topics that have included hereditary eye defects, skin disorders and behavioral studies; and matches offering ring conditions to provide experience for handlers and
dogs.

health clinics and
seminars on topics of interest to breeders and pet owners alike.
They take part in breed, obedience, and field events to prove the mettle of their
dogs and share the love of
dogs with other breeders and owners; attend
seminars to expand their knowledge of canine
health and training; and serve as mentors to breed newcomers.
