Each May, in conjunction with National Dog Bite Prevention Week, insurance companies issue their list of breeds they deem to be dangerous and, thus, result in your possibly being denied coverage according to their criteria.
The list of which breeds are acceptable will frequently vary by state and by the insurance company, so you'll want to be quite specific when discussing your dog as part of buying a policy.
Here is a partial list of the dogs that could mean higher homeowners insurance rates:
Our insurance company provided us a list of dogs that they will not permit on the property and will not cover if there is a claim and they are not all big dogs (Jack Russell is on the list), so you have to check with your insurance carrier regarding liability.
i. Dogs on «aggressive» list of most insurance companies are not permitted, including (but not limited to) Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Doberman Pincers, Chows, Huskies, Mastiffs, Malamutes, Akitas, Bulldogs, Bull Terriers, Pit Bulls or any breed normally over 15 pounds as an adult.
