But beyond the judge, we want to know what's
going on in
dog breeders
and dog handlers» minds when preparing for a
dog show.
They just
go through the motions, exercise after exercise, even if the
dog or
handler is doing it wrong, repetition after repetition of bad handling
and mistakes.
American Humane Association has helped numerous warrior
dog handlers reunite with their battle buddies over the last year, but this reunion was extra special because lots of work
and effort
went into it.
Even if a service
dog does not learn to alert to a seizures, their
handler can still benefit from the
dog as s / he can stay with the person
and comfort them as they recover (by laying beside them), lick them as they re-orient, or
go get help as the seizure is happening (or the other tasks listed above).
This work will help relax the

and comfort working together,
and give them experience in biting
and letting
go.
After training, the

handlers,
and together they
go through a 200 - hour certification class.
Learning how to deal with tight spaces is more difficult, but through reward
and correction, the instructor gradually demonstrates to the
dog that it should never
go through a space that is too narrow or too low for its
handler.
All the
handler has to tell them is «
go to the office» or «find the coffee shop,»
and the guide
dog will follow the complete route!
This herding sense is a part of the predatory pattern of the
dogs, but it can be taught to
go out, circle round up the livestock
and bring them where the
handler is.

dogs are already well trained, the owner is in agreement that we

Once the
dog and handler complete all requirements, they must
go through a final evaluation, or series of evaluations, to become an official animal assisted therapy team.
There is one major error that the Marshall might make, which is to direct you to
go to the holding blind
and then ask you to leave it so that another
handler and dog can run before you.

Much of our enjoyment of earthdog tests as human participants derives from the clear, obvious,
and exuberant joy our
dogs display when they are given an opportunity to do something similar to their ancestral purpose:
going to ground, working quarry, partnering with a human
handler.

dogs do not really need a leash, anywhere, ever, except as required by law - which is why they are allowed the 20 feet of wander space a flexi lead offers - on the grounds of their condo complex, when they are the only
dogs out,
and under the supervision of their owner /
handler, who is more aware than most parents of toddlers of what is
going on... My own
dog is not well trained enough to be put on a flexi lead - ever.
Often there is a
dog /
handler team that is to be congratulated simply for making it around the course
and often such a team
goes on to much greater success!
Dogs who complete the weeks long training program are ready to
go directly into an adoptive home,
and their inmate
handlers get to foster, love
and train another incoming retired racer.

and without strong boundaries with a firm fair leader then you may have problems.
Some trainers it seems
dogs are just a vehicle to
go get a bird, instead of showing the relationship between the

go out in the field, set up a hunt,
and then return to its

and you are given another opportunity to send the
