Your resident
dog must be able to obey simple commands such as «sit», «stay», «down» and «
come» before it is ideal to introduce a new cat
into your
home.
When we are contacted about a
dog that needs to
come into rescue, we will line up a foster
home typically before they
come in.
It takes a
dog one to two weeks to
come out of their shell and become comfortable after moving
into a new
home.
We
come to your
home to train your
dog or take your
dog into the community for public access training lessons.
It is recommended that you keep the
dog on a leash the first time he
comes into the
home.
The rescue groups that allow a
dog to go straight from one
home into the new one without
coming in for assessment are simply shooting in the dark.
He eventually found his way to one of our board members, Amy Kristt, who took the

dog to join our Forever Foster Program.

homes to be able to take them.

When a new
dog is to be
coming into our program as an Adopt - A-Bull, we will send out an email to all open foster
homes letting everyone know the following: age, sex, history (where the
dog is
coming from, background, etc.), characteristics, behavior with other
dogs & cats (to the best of current knowledge), behavior with children (if known), and the type of
home our trainer feels he / she may do best in.
If you change the time that you
come and go, if a child leaves the
home, if you lose your job or get a job or even get divorced, this will disrupt the normal flow of things and can send your
dog into a tailspin.
Other
dogs show territorial aggression only toward people or other animals
coming into the
home.
We spay / neuter, vaccinate, medically examine, microchip, and evaluate and / or socialize all
dogs and cats that
come into our rescue before placing up for adoption to pre-screened
homes.
We especially need foster
homes that are comfortable working with very shy
dogs that have little or no socialization when they first
come into rescue.
Once a
dog or puppy
comes into our program, we do age appropriate vetting and work hard to match them with approved
homes.
It is no surprise that the temple
dog had

dogs and fosters so there is minimal disruption to the
home environment, but most rescued
dogs come with issues (health, social, mental, physical) that should be taken
into account when asking to foster.
Many owners
come home to find their
dog completely unresponsive but have no idea how long ago their
dog got
into the trash.
We understand the breed; we use our expertise to evaluate
dogs that
come into our program and match them with prescreened adopters in order to find these lost
dogs an appropriate
home.
All
dogs need basic training when they first
come into a new
home.
Any
dog that
comes into a foster
home receives necessary veterinary care, temperament evaluation and whatever rehabilitation may be needed before being placed.
Sometimes, time is the only solution, so you may be required to keep the
dog in your
home until a spot opens up to
come into rescue.
Dogs often
come into rescues from a broken
home with a history of abuse.
Dogs that
come into our shelter are not only saved from a life on the streets or worse yet death, but they are given all the medical care, behavioral training and assessment necessary for a second chance at a
home and new life.
Guard
dogs tend to be wary of strangers and may not fit
into a
home where lots of people
come and go.
However, we may get a
dog into the program that
came from a
home with successful use of an underground containment system or feel the
dog may be a candidate for underground fencing.
A high percentage of the
dogs available for adoption through Border Collie Rescue of Minnesota have
come from
home situations directly
into rescue without going
into a shelter.
She is accepting of all the
dogs and cats that
come in and out of her life and she is always the first one to welcome them
into her
home.
