author certainly doesn't have to feature a
photo in a book, but I
do highly encourage any
author to have a good
photo on hand — if nothing else other than for the media.
So much so, no one knew what he looked like (unless you bought a particular edition of one book) cause he refused to
do signings and other such publicity, nor
did he include an
author photo in his work.
For books with art programs: In art -,
photo - or illustration - heavy books (such as cookbooks or coffee table books or
do - it - yourself instruction books), the
author is often looped in during the page design process.
Professional doesn't necessarily mean a studio portrait — think about how the background, pose and clothing in your
author photo can be a reflection of your brand and the type of books you write.
Your
author photo is extremely important as the people visiting the site will want to connect with you in some way and a photograph is a good way of
doing so; it makes your website that much more personal.
