Like most of the remote beaches on Nusa Penida island, getting to Atuh Beach is best
done by motorbike.
We've done this loop twice (with a couple of variations) and both times
we did it by motorbike.

If you're
doing the trip
by motorbike, note that all the routes we're covering are fully sealed and should be reasonable for a motorcyclist of intermediate ability.
The road that leads there is quite difficult, and though many tourists choose to
do it
by bike, in our opinion it's only advised for experienced
motorbike / moped riders.
Be warned: I was hit
by a
motorbike going down one - way Jalan Monkey Forest the wrong way on my way here, so
do keep your wits about you.
My favorite experience in Thailand was riding the Mae Hong Son loop
by motorbike, so I would jump at the chance to
do this in Chiang Rai.

Given the seemingly endless gridlock of
motorbikes everywhere, the complete lack of stoplights (or adherence to their rules) and the cultural assumption that crossing the street
by foot is not something to
done in any logical (or safe) manner, crossing the street in Vietnam can initially seem like an impossible task.
If you're weary of travelling
by bus, it's possible to hire
motorbikes in town and drive out to the surrounding villages — but don't expect a map or guidance.
If self driving, especially
by motorbike, watch - out — there are many blind corners, no shoulder, precipitous cliffs with poor railings (if any), and with all due respect to them, Floresian drivers
do seem to be a little mad.
It only takes 60 minutes from Tagbilaran to the Hills, so renting a
motorbike and
doing it
by yourself is also a nice option.
Whether you're travelling on foot or
by bicycle,
motorbike or car,
do not enter the road with any expectations whatsoever.
There are also waterfalls that can be reached
by motorbike — when you hire a bike it should come with a map, so ask if it doesn't.
You could care less about the monkeys
doing mischievous things (you've seen hundreds already) or that there is a family of seven locals passing
by on a
motorbike.
Moving around the island
done cheaply
by motorbike rental, or rather more safely
by car rental or even rent a driver.
The only real difference between the two is that in Enduro Racer, you ride a dirt bike and are able to pull wheelies
by lifting the front of the bike as you jump off of ramps; whereas in Hang On, you ride a standard
motorbike, and all you
do is (wait for it) hang on.
Zipline hasn't revealed the specifications of the drones that will be used in this service but it
did say that the deliveries will be cheaper than the ones currently made
by motorbike meaning more people can be served.
On the other hand, a regular
motorbike insurance is also a fine idea if you don't want to pay anything extra than the regular premium levied
by the insurer.
