If we start this season with those two
in our starting 11 it will be a clear sign from this organization that nothing has changed and that we will never get it right until both Kroenke and Wenger are gone... neither one
of these players should still be with our club at this point because they represent the settling half - measures that have plagued this team for a
number of years... this is what I call the «no man's land»
of the soccer world, where teams don't have enough talented young players, unlike a Monaco or Dortmund, because they have lost the plot from an organizational standpoint... they are so reliant on one individual to run the whole operation that their once relevant scouting department has become so antiquated that it can no longer find those hidden gems it once had... furthermore, when you leave all decision - making to a manager who despises any dissenting opinions, your management team becomes little more than a stagnant group
of «yes men» and no new ideas emerge... so instead
of developing a team with the qualities necessary to excel
in a particular system, you continually make half - brain purchases year after year to stifle dissent from the ticket - buying public, then try desperately to finagle together a lineup regardless
of what would make positional sense... have you ever heard
of a team who plays players out
of position so often...
of course not because that manager would likely be fired and never work for a team

This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety
of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style
of play has become a shadow
of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out
of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense
in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying
position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide
positions, without the aid
of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes
in the same clinical fashion we
did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess
in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out
of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself
in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes
of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play
of Monreal, but none
of these players possess the skill - set required
in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio
of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I
do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling
in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he
does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he
did get a bit better during some points
in the latter part
of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis
in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself
in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him
in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part
of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature
of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive
in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player
of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out
of position far too many times since arriving and that the players
in front
of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence
in Real or the space and protection he receives
in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived
in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components...
in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them
in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion
in a regular starting eleven; I would say that,
of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one
of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin
in that wing - back
position should we continue to use that formation...
in Sanchez, we get one
of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already
of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs
of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often
in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the
numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and
in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack
of mobility is an albatross around the necks
of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because
of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place
in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
Mkhitaryan we know
done well with Auba, having him as the 2nd AM instead
of Ozil would put him
in his preferred
position, more
of a
number 10 than a winger.
We lost the balance
of the team I could clearly see it there was something un clear to our players on the field the left wing was weak wellbeck lost
position far too many times belerin was not up to scratch maybe it should have been gabrial instead
of matasacker carzola tried to spray ball into left flank that went begging but also the midfield was weak perhaps there should have been 5 but the
number wasn't the real problem we didn't
do what the tots
did to us all
in all hope this was a good dress rehearsal for the champion league but the defence has to be more accurate to protect the goal keeper keans goals are not acceptable
really arsenal fan after watching our beloved team playing this season
do any
of you really really think we are title contender
do you thing a team with coutinho playing
in the
number ten
position and sadio mane playing as a winger would go for 80 minutes without a shot on goal.fans blame elneny for not makeing forward passing to him self ozil not moveing into space winger not makeing them self available only sanchez.
I am writing this article before Arsenal and our Premier League rivals like Man City and Leicester City kick off for the first matches
of the new year, so the
numbers in the statistics I am using to compare our assist king Mesut Ozil with other players
doing well
in the same
position will have changed by tonight.
And flaminis??? Man this b ** lsh!t, multiplying players
in so many
positions does not make up for the
numbers, and wait if we really means business how can you consider using some
of your listed player?
Nothing like one underachiever blowing smoke up the ass
of another... we know that Ozil has some incredible technical gifts, but to be considered the best you have to bring more than just assists to the table... for me, a top player has to possess a more well - rounded game, which doesn't mean they need to be a beast on both ends
of the pitch, but they must have the ability to take their game to another level when it matters most... although he amassed some record - like stats early on, it set the bar too high, so when people expected him to duplicate those
numbers each year the pressure seemed to get the best
of our soft - spoken star... obviously that's not an excuse for what has happened
in the meantime, but it's important to make note
of a few things: (1) his best year was a transition year for many
of the traditionally dominant teams
in the EPL, so that clearly made the
numbers appear better than they actually were and (2) Wenger's system, or lack thereof, didn't
do him any favours; by playing him out
of position and by not acquiring world - class striker and / or right - side forward that would best fit an Ozil - centered offensive scheme certainly hurt his chances to repeat his earlier peformances, (3) the loss
of Cazorla, who took a lot
of pressure off Ozil
in the midfield and was highly efficient when it came to getting him the ball
in space, negatively impacted his effectiveness and (4) he likewise missed a good chunk
of games and frankly never looked himself when he eventually returned to the field... overall the Ozil experiment has had mixed reviews and rightfully so, but I
do have some empathy for the man because he has always carried himself the same way, whether for Real or the German National team, yet he has only suffered any lengthy down periods with Arsenal... to me that goes directly to this club's inability to surround him with the necessary players to succeed, especially for someone who is a pass first type
of player; as such, this simply highlights our club's ineffective and antiquated transfer policies... frankly I'm disappointed
in both Ozil and our management team for not stepping up when it counted because they had a chance to
do something special, but they didn't have it
in them... there is no one that better exemplifies our recent history than Ozil, brief moments
of greatness undercut by long periods
of disappointing play, only made worse by his mopey posturing like a younger slightly less awkward Wenger... what a terribly waste
The Ox was never going to be able to
do what Ozil
does for Arsenal because he is a different type
of player altogether, and even when he has played
in the centre
of midfield for us instead
of on one
of the flanks it has been
in the box - to - box role rather than the
number 10
position.
Before writing this article, I was counting the
number of central defenders we have and I suddenly realized that if and when Wenger
does bring
in Mustafi or whoever his real defensive target is, we will have six central defenders for two
positions.
Ozil seems to enjoy his life
in London and after a sometimes shaky start to his Premier League career he has proven himself to be one
of the
in that difficult
number 10
position, but the problem is that his ability has not been rewarded with enough success on the pitch and our manager
doing his usual impression
of a man who has no idea that there is a transfer window open there is not a massive sign
of that changing.
I can only hope that this attempt is taken more seriously than the largely muted and clearly unsuccessful protests
of late last season... although the plane writing escapade brought some much - needed attention to the matter, it failed to resonate with fence - sitters and those who had just recently fell off the Wenger truck... without a big enough showing
of support the whole endeavor appeared relatively weak and poorly organized, especially to the major media outlets, whose involvement could have significantly changed what was to follow... but I get it, few wanted to turn on their club, let alone make a public display
of their discord... problem is, they are preying on that vulnerability,
in fact, their counting on you to keep your thoughts to yourself... who are you to tell these fat cats how to steal your money... they have worked long and hard to pull the wool over your eyes... they even went so far as to pay enormous sums
of cash to your once beloved professor to be their corporate spokesmodel so that the whole thing would be more palatable... eventually the club made it appear as if this was simply a relatively small fringe group
of highly radicalized supporters, which allowed the pro-Wenger element inside the club hierarchy to claim victory following the FA Cup win... unfortunately what has happened to this club can't be solved by FA Cups or a few players coming
in, the very culture
of this club needs to be changed and that starts at the top...
in order to change the unhealthy and dysfunctional narrative that has absorbed this club we need to remove everyone who presently occupies a
position of power... only then can we get back to the business
of playing championship caliber football, which should always be the
number one priority
of this organization... on an important side note, one
of the most devastating mistakes made
in the final days
of this hectic and poorly planned transfer window didn't have to
do with the big name players like Sanchez or Lemar, but the fact that they failed to secure Jadon Sancho, who might even start for Dortmund this season... I think they might seriously regret this oversight... instead
of spending so much time, energy and manpower pretending that they were desperately trying to make big moves, they once again lost the plot due to their all too familiar tunnel vision
He is very versatile
in that he can play a
number of positions, but he doesn't master any
position enough to be called world class or close to it.
While they're at it, Arsenal could also
do with investing
in a
number of key areas
in their squad, where some flops have been holding on to their
positions for far too long.
First
of all I would like to say that I think Arsenal will come away from Vicarage Road next weekend with all three points, especially as the team should look a lot more like the Arsenal we are used to, with Olivier Giroud leading the attack and Mesut Ozil
doing what he
does best
in the
number 10
position, but there will be a lot more pressure on the players to beat Watford than is ideal.
He won't be asked to
do all that
in the NBA, but he has a
number of strengths that make him an appealing prospect who could potentially spend time at three
positions.
He is a central midfielder and a very very good one yet the manager is playing the same game with him as he has
done with quite a
number of players over the years
in playing him out
of his preferred natural
position.
I know that neither
of the options for Arsenal
in the centre forward
position has quite
done it for us yet this season, but with Danny Welbeck out for a long time and Alexis Sanchez seeming to prefer to play
in a wide forward or
number 10 role, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud are what we will have to make
do with.
However, there was a suggestion that the Spain international
did not have the best
of times and could have
done more, although he was played
in a
number of positions in midfield and had to fight for his place.
He
did manage to make 21 appearances at this level last season as well and is another who can play
in a
number of positions.
Schmetzer acknowledged that, while his team
does have depth at a
number of positions, current circumstances have exposed the team as rather shallow
in other areas.
He
did a
number of things well — he tracked back well, working hard defensively, he made runs occupying the defence when Benteke came short to challenge
in the air, he switched
positions with Coutinho to give the latter more space.
