A more detailed research of all existing training footage from Arnold's golden days (together with the material that didn't make the cut during the production of Pumping Iron) makes it obvious that that that the dumbbell fly, when performed properly, can be an extremely effective and even transforming exercise, especially when
done on the flat bench.
Simple and effective and, in my opinion, a whole lot better than
doing them on a flat bench.
The middle chest is best stimulated from exercises

Scoop out a large tablespoon of batter roll it into a ball then pat it

I started

When you fail
on the incline
bench press, switch over and proceed to
do as many reps as you can
on the
flat bench press.

Set the 2 safety bars
on each side to a height that's just at about your chest level when lying
flat on the
bench, and adjust the weight holder hooks to a height that's about 2 notches up from the safety bar, so your arms need to bend somewhat to lift the weights, but at the same time, doesn't require too much effort.
You can also
do this exercise
on an incline
bench,
flat bench, or exercise ball in a similar manner.
Keep your butt and head
flat on the
bench and feet
flat on the floor for stability, but don't push your head into the
bench to assist the lift; firm up the neck muscles instead.
Make sure your arms stay
flat on the
bench the whole time and
do not use momentum to use the weight.
If this exercise is too challenging, you can build up your core by
doing the alternating dumbbell chest press
on a
flat bench.
If this is your first time
doing this exercise, set your feet
flat on the floor a foot or two away from the
bench.
Repeat this for 12 reps. Just like with the
flat bench, use a spotter if you're new to this exercise, and don't take
on more than you can chew.
When you're
doing bench press
on a
flat bench, this position doesn't matter because your core is not actually supporting the weight.
And while the rear
bench doesn't fold
flat, few people will buy a Conti for its practicality — indeed, they've probably already got a Range Rover in the garage, or will have their eye
on the new Bentley Bentayga SUV.
