The black paper you see taped to the bottom of my graph paper was simply to enable me to easily slide the paper under the waxed paper on which I piped my royal icing dots.

I did some of these with a sheen of big sugar, others I do with a dot or two of royal icing for buttons (I'll add some notes on how to make royal icing without raw eggs below).
