Last October, I stopped using BN because of this policy / technical change where I can no longer
download ebooks from my library using MY encryption key to a technology neutral platform.
They are a service when
you download the ebook from the library as part of your «subscription» to check the book out.
We also let readers
download the ebook from library websites and add them onto their favorite reading devices.
With the Sony you basically just used its web browser to search and
download ebooks from your library's mobile website.
I live in a rural area and I don't miss much by not being able to
download ebooks from the library here.

The convenience of
downloading epubs
from the city and county
libraries is fantastic, and I recently discovered Bookbub for free and discounted
ebooks!
If publishers raise their prices like Random House has done and people can not borrow
ebooks from the
library or buy them for a reasonably low price, they will do as they did for music —
download the book illegally for free and share them with all their friends.
If patrons stop looking to
libraries to supply
ebooks because
libraries can't get
ebooks from a publisher or can only afford a few very expensive
ebooks that have long hold lines, then the patron will look elsewhere.The choice is to buy
from the publisher or
download illegally.
