This makes the pus very thick and caseous like cheese, making cleaning and
draining of the abscess very difficult.

of massage, cold therapy, and anti-inflammatory medication, you can avoid getting mastitis or worse, an
abscess.
If you have an

Abscessed teeth will commonly

of the carnasial tooth the roots are very close to the skin just below the eye.
Occasionally, the wounds can develop large pockets called
abscesses under the skin that require surgical placement
of a
drain to aid in healing.
Also an
abscess, called a seroma, can form at the site
of the pin and require either
draining or surgical removal.
After resolution
of a severe brain infection in one
of my dogs — when an
abscess suddenly formed and
drained on his head — I realized that this was a medical therapy that my patients needed.
Antibiotics alone would not be able to penetrate into the
abscess so
draining and flushing the area are important parts
of the treatment.
Some
abscesses are large enough to require an indwelling rubber
drain to assist with removal
of the pus.
Because
of the nature
of the cheese - like pus, it is not possible to
drain and flush out the
abscess like with dogs and cats.
Though a small
abscess may respond well to
draining and cleaning, coupled with the use
of local antibiotics or other products that kill the bacteria, for best results surgical removal
of an
abscess is preferred whenever possible.
