Note: I never got
dream feeding working - I think you have to get your baby when they are going into that lighter state of sleep to get it to work.

I feel as though at 6 months we should be dropping the
dream feed, but it's
working so well for us (sleep wise).
I bet a
dream feed would
work for you though, to at least prevent the middle of the night
feeding.
I agree with the previous poster about a breast pump - priceless not only for going back to
work but during maternity leave I would pump a bottle so that my husband could do the
dream feed.
Currently, our almost 4 - week old has this routine: 7 - 8 pm
feed, sleep 12 - 1 am awakes on her own to
feed, sleep 4 - 5 am awakes on her own to
feed, sleep 8 - 9 am awakes on her own and we start the regular
feed, wake, sleep I misunderstood the
dream feed I guess and thought this schedule was
working well and someday we would drop the 1 - 2 am
feed.
We are still on a three hour schedule because I am
working to drop the
dream feed next week and have started weaning back the length of the
dream feed.
For breastfeeding mothers,
dream feeds can help keep up your supply or be beneficial if you
work outside of the home and need to breastfeed more.
If you don't
work out of the home, you may be able to place the
dream feed later in the night than other parents.
One of the solutions that
work for my children is a
dream feed.
The other purpose the
dream feed served was to help my husband and me know that when they woke up and we were
working on «coaching them» back to sleep, we would not give in and
feed them because we knew they were not hungry.
Diaper changes, milk
feedings, no sleep (like, never ever), our bodies healing from bringing a HUMAN BEING into the world, wild and uncontrollable emotions, having to cope with the idea of actually leaving those little babies and going back to
work... Sounds like a
dream, doesn't it?
It can take a while to master
dream feeding so don't be put off if your first couple of attempts don't
work.
I have to admit, cluster and
dream feeds just didn't
work for us, but I say it's worth a try and see if it does
work for you guys.
There are actually quite a few Baby Whisperer techniques that didn't
work with NB (
dream feed, shush pat, etc) but I still love her strategies and routines.
