Carlota, if you have liquid smoke, smoked paprika or smoked salt, you could try those combined with
some dried chili powder.
In my chili recipe, I make a paste with
dried chili powders that I bought, mix with water, and add to the chili for the bulk of the seasoning.

Ingredient Substitution: If you don't have all the
dried peppers on hand, just substitute 3 tablespoons of regular

Add the cumin,
chili powder,
dried oregano, salt and pepper, 4 cloves garlic, zest and juice of 1 orange, and the zest and juice of 1 lime to the blender.
A friend found that he could remove that dusty gritty feeling from
chili powder by purchasing (and growing)
dried peppers whole and removing the stems and seeds before running them through a food processor.

chili powder does not mean
dried and ground chillies, which is what we mean in Australia by chilli
