I've never made this recipe
using dried dates so I can't say for sure how it would turn out.
Accordingly, a 1/4 cup
of dried dates counts as 1/2 cup of fruit in daily intake terms.
Now, the flavor of this pudding comes mainly
from dried dates which can be found in the produce section of most grocery stores.
Just found this website and made these, but used
dried dates as that is all I had.
I was curious on your opinion about
eating dried dates and figs as I just found out how high they are in fructose!
Sadly
dried dates don't work properly most of the time as they're just not soft enough, the texture is pretty different so the effect just isn't the same — sorry!
I did make a few editions: I used 8
dried dates which I left soaking in the yoghurt for a few hours to soften.
Dried dates often have a tough outer skin, which you can easily soften by soaking them in hot water for about 10 minutes.
For the filling: In a food processor,
combine dried dates, dried cherries, cinnamon, applesauce, and salt.

If you only
find dried dates, I'd recommend that you soak them in water a few hours before you use them to get the right sticky consistency in the crust and a smooth texture in the filling.
But I find that fruit and

Soaking dried dates even for a little while in some hot water (even better overnight) is totally fine for baking
There is only one particular food store which sells medjool dates for a reasonable price, we have
only dried dates sold everywhere.
I also used
normal dried dates with a tiny bit of hot water to make them softer as I didn't have medjool dates.
Umma would say that in those days (early 80s), she has seen the maids at the Arab houses would have a huge pot outside the house kept on a makeshift stove, with fire from
dried date palm or wood and they would stir in once in a while to ensure it doesn't stick.
If you can't get Medjool dates, you can use Deglet Noor or
